Actor Nate Bynum
How did you get started and break into acting?
I always point back to high school; our drama club. I won Best Actor my junior and senior year, which got me theatre scholarships to various colleges. Things spiraled after that into a career I didn’t plan or really direct with any thought.
If you had to pinpoint it, what would you say has been the secret to your success so far?
Luck and good fortune has sometimes played a part, but overall I’d say staying positive and eager to learn, being patient and taking chances. I credit my grandparents with pointing me towards being strong but respectful.
What is a fun fact about you?
I don’t do heights and I love kids’ cereals.
Let’s talk about some of your favorites: Favorite film & TV show?
Love Story touches me every time I see it. The Sopranos was excellently written, directed, and acted.
Can’t go wrong with chicken or fish dishes.
Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Sandra Bullock, Viola Davis, Bruce Dern, Forrest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Clint Eastwood. Not a complete list, though.
Steven Spielberg. Great storyteller.
What has been your favorite role, project, or gig so far?
My recurring role on CRASH, the tv series. Experienced being a regular cast member. Less pressure to perform.
You teach and mentor many actors at the University level. What advice would you give to actors who are trying to break in to a career as a professional actor in TV & Film?
Take the pursuit seriously. Value the training and the journey. Compete against yourself to get better. Hard work is the foundation for big dreams! Learn the rules…then see how many of them you can break.
What are you currently working on, and what does the future hold for you?
I guest-star on How To Get Away With Murder on an upcoming episode. I have two scripts that are in the hands of CAA agents and network producers. I will continue acting, writing, teaching…and being the best grandfather to a very active 3 year old.
